Happy Birthday Wishes with Classic Red Roses

Hello everyone! Bonnie here from Bonniecarollee Makes Cards! There is nothing like classic red roses to celebrate a special birthday. I have a card and gift tag set featuring the gorgeous ARTISAN FLORA DIES ROSE. This is an incredibly beautiful layering die set that is easily assembled!

The main rose, the three smaller roses and two buds were cut from white card stock.  The die with the two different sizes of leaves and stems for the small rose and bud was cut four times.

 The rose layers were Copic coloured.  For a classic red rose, I used, darkest to lightest, R89, 39, 35 and 32.  The darkest tone was applied to the base of each layer working up to the petal’s edge with the lighter ones and finishing off with R32 for a highlight.  Each of the colours over lap the previous one with a flicking (feathering) technique. To achieve a smooth blend, the R39, 35 and 32, were applied twice. 

The leaves and stems were coloured with BG99, 94 and 82.  For the leaves, BG99 was used to colour the main stem and taken up into each leaf to accentuate the central vein.  Continuing with the flicking technique, BG94 and 82 were applied starting in the centre at the base of the leaf and working out to the leaf’s edge.

A variety of die cut sentiments were used for this project from MERAKI MOMENTS HUGS, BIRTHDAY SLIMLINE TAG and LOVE SLIMLINE TAG. The main sentiments were cut from matte gold card stock and mounted on black foam die cuts.. The lettering for the HUGS sentiment was cut from black card stock.  The secondary sentiments were cut from black card stock and foam mounted.

The black-on-black backgrounds for both the card and tag were created with CRAFT-A-ROUND A2 BACKGROUND DIE. The panel for the card was mounted on a matte gold foil matted, A2 sized card bases.  For the tag, the die from BIRTHDAY SLIMLINE TAG was used to cut black card stock and the Craft-A-Round panel.  After the background was mounted on the solid tag, the unfinished edges of the Craft-A-Round die cut were disguised with gold embossing.

 After the sentiments, roses and leaves were adhered to the card front and tag, some leaves were popped up with foam squares. Clear, smooth crystals were placed on a few rose petals and leaves looking like dewdrops.
