Glittery Birthday Card

Hello everyone! I am so excited to have been invited to guest design this month. I absolutely love the Crafty Meraki products, and when they reached out to me, I was flattered and ecstatic 😊

For my first post, I decided to create a birthday card using the beautiful and versatile Sweet Celebrations Para-Dies. If you know me, you know I enjoy working with dies more than anything; the possibilities are endless, and I love the dimension you can achieve with them. I also used additional products that I’ll share as I explain my process.

Here is the card.



I started by die cutting the base of the cupcake from Bazzill pink cardstock that I had previously embossed with an old embossing folder from my stash. Any dotted embossing folder would work perfectly to achieve a similar look. Stars, hearts, or small geometric shapes would also add great texture! I then ink-blended the die cut with a darker shade of pink to make the dots stand out. Distress Oxide in Pink Raspberry matched my cardstock perfectly. I finished the base by adhering four more layers of the same die cut to the back. This not only gives a lot of dimension without using foam dots but it makes the finished image sturdy and completely flat.



Next the frosting. I knew I wanted this card to be super shiny, so I heat-embossed Neenah Solar White 110 lbs carstock with WOW Embossing Powder Glitter POWDERED SNOW before die-cutting the top layer. I wish you could see all the sparkle! The photo doesn’t do it justice. There are three layers of the frosting die cut that I arranged to fully cover the top of the cupcake.

After cutting the cookies and the fun lollipop from colored cardstock, I adhered them between the layers of the frosting as well as behind it for a more realistic look. I finished the cupcake with the pretty bow. Again, I used the same technique of gluing several layers of the same die cut to achieve dimension.



Once my cupcake was ready, I cut a 4inx5.25in panel from the Color Cascade Paper Pack. I love the variety of colors featured in this paper pack. It’s perfect for soft, muted cards as well as bright, vibrant designs. I adhered the panel to an A2 white card base using double-sided tape.

To balance the thickness of the bottom portion of the cupcake, I used foam dots behind the frosting, the lollipop and the cookies.

For the sentiment, I didn’t have a Crafty Meraki birthday/celebration set I could use, so I had to work with what was available to me. I chose two words from the EAP Festive Flora Wreath and cut them using the coordinating dies. I think it worked out okay 😊

I finished the card with glittery stars scattered all around the cupcake and a wash of sparkle all over with the ZIG Wink of Stella Glitter Brush Marker Pen in clear. It adds so much shine to the card!
