This week we are featuring cards colored without the use of markers so I thought I would share a technique I like to use where I enhance the look of stencils with colored pencils.
For my project, I decided to feature the beautiful Damask Layering Stencil Set and the Damask Coordinating Die Set. To start, I cut a piece of white cardstock into a 5.5" x 5.5" square and using a combination of 3 coordinating pink and 3 coordinating gray colored dye inks from my stash, I ink-blended my image using the 5 layering stencils from the set. Next, I die cut the image and then grabbed my Prismacolor pencils to do a little color enhancing.
I selected 3 shades of pink, each slightly darker than my ink colors, along with two shades of cool gray, and my all time favorite pencil color, white!!!
The image above shows a side by side view of the stencil with just the ink- blending next to the pencil-enhanced image. Using my pencils, I softened the edges of the stencil lines, I increased the depths of the shadow layers, and I added in highlights with my white pencil. Both versions are absolutely beautiful, but pencils can give you a different look and expand the range of the products in your stash.
Once my image was complete, I got to work on a dove-gray background panel using my Pagoni Mania Background A2 Panel Para-Die cut to a 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" size. I then matted the panel with a wine colored cardstock cut to 4" x 5 1/2," before adhering both to a white A2-sized card panel.
Now to complete my design.
I decided I wanted to create layers with the flowers and the greenery, so I grabbed my craft scissors and carefully cut apart the flowers and the leaves. I then arranged them on the card panel, carefully adhered some with glue, and then using both thick and thin foam tape created dimension. Another trick, I also used the side of my pick-up tool to carefully curl up the tips of my leaves.
To finish everything off I stamped a "Miss You" sentiment from the Special Delivery stamp set in black ink onto white cardstock. I die cut the sentiment along with an extra layer for added dimension from the Special Delivery Coordinating Dies, added a few embellishments from my stash, and my card was now complete.
