Today I have a shaker card to share with you using Crafty Meraki’s Hugs word die and watercolor wash stencil from My Favorite Things (sorry its currently out of stock at Crafty Meraki store, but please check back).
The wash stencil is quite versatile and I used it on a slimline card layer to create snow bank layers in various tones of blue with the distress oxide inks. I made sure to rotate the stencil often to get different look with every layer/snow bank.
After stenciling, I added some metallic splatters in matching colors from the Altenew metallic watercolor pan set. I love how they shimmer when they catch the light.
Next I used the Hugs shadow die and centered it to cut out a shaker window. Using liquid adhesive I glued the window with acetate. Next I used double-sided foam adhesive which I doubled up to create the ‘well’ for my shaker elements. Stacking up the foam tape helps to create a slightly deeper well which lets the shaker elements like sequins move around a bit more freely.
After adding the shaker elements and silver micro beads, I used another piece of acetate to seal the shaker well. This made it easier to add the foam tape around rest of the area and finally flip it over to attach to the main card base.
Finally I used the main Hugs die to cut out the word 3 times from a dark navy card stock and stacked it for dimension. Again this die is fantastic as it gives you not only the shadow but also an outline along with the word itself. For my card I used the outlines and the inside pieces that were adhered on top of the acetate window.
And to complete the sentiment I stamped 'Sending You’ from one of the other Crafty Meraki stamp sets called Blooming Birthday in chipped sapphire ink. I added a layer of the same navy card stock to finish up and used foam tape to glue the sentiment strip over the shaker window.
I love how using the outline of the word makes for a fun see through shaker card. Also I used the leftover pieces to assemble another Hugs word that is ready to be made into a tag or a card in the near future!
Wishing you all a crafty and festive holiday season!!
~Sweta
