Hello crafty friends, Karin here. Welcome to a new blogpost that’s all about Christmas in July. I’m going to show you how to get creative with ‘normal’ year round products to make Christmas cards with. Come follow me along!
Let’s go to the next step. To add some more interest to the background I used the Sahara Symphony hotfoil plate as an embossing plate. I used my betterpress for this. It’s hard to capture the embossed print on a photo but it looks so good in real life!
I love some good ink smooshing, so that’s what I’m going to start with. I use distress oxides wild honey and rusty hinge and distress ink candied apple. As you can see on the picture below I add all the inks randomly onto my glass mat and spray it with water. I used clairefontaine 250gr DCP paper. I put down the piece of paper onto the wet ink and sweep with my hand over the paper so everything will be covered in ink well. Pull it up and let it dry, I use a heat tool to speed up this process, I really dislike waiting too long before moving on. I cleaned my glass mat and I added rusty hinge and wild honey onto it, because I wanted to add some more of these colours. I also sprayed distress spritz in fossilized amber onto the wild honey ink ok my glass mat to add a little sparkle. Spray with water and repeat the process.

This card isn’t looking like a Christmas card yet, so let’s change that. The Sahara Symphony background die and Speckled Canopy background die are great for making Christmas baubles. Just turn the dies upside down and you’ll see the shapes of the designs are changing in Christmas baubles shapes. I cut both backgrounds so I can use them as a stencil.
I coloured the texture paste with liquid pearls prickly pear from Ranger ink. As you can see I cut one shape out of the background, I find it easier to use it this way. Tape the edges down with low tacky tape and add the texture paste with a spatula. Let dry before moving on. When dry you can easily cut the bauble shape with scissors.
I wasn’t happy with the colours I chose for the baubles so I changed them. I coloured the dark green with a gold nail pen and I coloured the texture paste red with an alcohol marker. I made another badge of baubles the same way but now I used distress rusty hinge spray paint to colour the texture paste.
I thought this card could use some dimension so I made half of the baubles with an ‘ornament cap’ so I could add the golden thread to it and ‘hang’ them with double sided foam tape on the card. For the other baubles I used Sparkle Twilight Treasure Illusion embellishments and placed the thread behind it and placed these baubles with glue on the card. Place a piece of double sided tape on the back of the card so you can attach the golden threads to it. I’m going to add a coloured background inside my double card so I added the tape on the inside of the card. If you don’t want to do this you’ll have to place the tape on the back of the background before sticking it onto a card base.
The only thing that’s missing now is a sentiment so I took out my dymo labelwriter again and used a gold label to add the text: ‘merry and bright’. And now we have a super creative Christmas card made without any Christmas products.
