Colourful mixed media tags with distress crayon technique.
Hello crafty friends! Welcome to another blog. This time I’m going to show you how you can use distress crayons in a different way with the beautiful Laurel Leaf para-dies. I’m going to make two tags but only show you how i made one of them because i made them the same way only the colours are different.
Distress crayon colours used:
Tag 1:
     •Picked raspberry.
     •Spiced marmalade
     •Mustard seed
     •Twisted citron
     •Peacock feathers
Tag 2:
      •Aged mahogany
      •Wild honey
      •Forest moss
      •Tea dye
      •Gathered twigs

I start with a cheap white piece of cardstock that I cut in the size 2,6” x 5,9”. I’m using a tag punch to give the corners another shape and another punch to add a hole in the middle of the tag for the ribbons that’ll be added at the end.
Before I start with the crayons I need to prep my cardstock with collage medium, I use distress matte transculent one. Add a good layer of the medium with a paintbrush and let dry completely before moving on. You can speed up the process when using a heat gun.
When completely dry it’s time for colour. You’ll need a bit of a rough surface to put the crayon on. I added the colours onto the surface just by writing with the crayons. After this I add water to the colours with my spray bottle. Don’t add too much of water because then the colours will run and mix with eachother and we don’t want that to happen. Smooch the colours with your fingers so you get a cohesive blop of colour.
Take a tag and place it with the collage medium side down onto the colours and add a little pressure with your fingers. Take it off of the surface sideways so you don’t mix all the colours together. If needed place the tag onto the surface again and swipe it sideways to pick up more colour. Let dry completely.
For the next step we needed to use the collage medium first. I cut out the small laurel leaf die out of cardstock so i can use it as a stencil. Place it onto the tag and take a wet paper towel and tap the ink off of the tag. As you can see the ink will lighten and you’ll end up with a white patterned background. Place the handmade stencil on another part of the tag where you want to lighten the background and repeat the steps.
Now the background is done I’m going to make golden laurel leaf dies. I took a piece of white smooth cardstock and coloured it with a Nuvo marker in gold. I cut out three small leaves out of it for one tag. To add a bit bling I added a bit of tacky glue onto the edges of the leaves and threw gold glitter over it. Tap off the excess glitter and let dry.
While drying I’m going to cut out the sentiment from the Gilded Greetings EAP. For the first tag I’m cutting out ‘congrats’ and for the second one ‘grateful for you’. The ‘grateful for you’ is one big greeting but I chose to cut the words separately. I coloured the white parts with distress crayons. Add a bit water to the paper and colour with your crayons over it and smooch it with your fingers. Keep adding crayon and water until you’re satisfied with it.
To add firmness to the tags I added another layer of cheap cardstock that I cut out in the same size and glued it on the back with tacky glue.
Now the leaves are dry I’m going to place them onto the tag with tacky glue and add the sentiments with double sided foam tape. And we’re done! Hope you liked reading my blog and will give this fun technique a try.
See you next Tuesday.
