Adding Pretty Details to Quick & Easy Backgrounds using Cover Dies

Hello friends! Bonnie here! I have two card examples that outline a couple of fun techniques to add details to cover die cut backgrounds. I will be working with the beautiful Whole-Heartedly Mini Slimline and Craft-A-Round A2 dies. Visit the Crafty Meraki YouTube Channel for more details.

  • Dark red and plum card stock were ink blended with Distress Oxide inks.  On one half of the panel, Kitsch Flamingo was applied to the red card stock and Shaded Lilac to the other.  To blend the ink on the card stock and create a smooth transition, a clean blender brush was used to complete the blending.
  • The panels were cut with Whole-Heartedly Mini Slimline and Craft-A-Round A2 dies.
  • The edges of the panels were inked with Versamark and embossed in gold.
  • Panels of matte gold card stock were cut the same size as the die cut backgrounds. They were sprinkled with gold embossing powder and melted for a fine and pretty texture to peak through all the die cut openings.
  • The die cut panels were adhered to the gold ones. The plum panel was adhered to an A2 sized black card base. The mini slimline was mounted on a black card base measuring 3 3/4” by 6 1/4”.
  • The die cut sentiments from Crafty Meraki Love Slimline Tag and Crafty Meraki Birthday Slimline Tag die sets were used to cut the same card stock as the background. These dies were also used to cut black sheet foam to stack the sentiment on.

  • The secondary sentiments from these die sets were used to cut matte gold card stock. They were adhered to bottom of the main sentiments.
  • After the sentiments were centred on the card front, they were highlighted with silhouette die cuts from Spade Meraki Flora Para-Dies. The leafy branches were cut from the card stock used previously and matte gold.  The coloured card stock die cuts were adhered off set to the gold ones and attached to the card front with a combination of foam squares and liquid adhesive. Some branches were trimmed. Red branches were used on the plum card and plum on the red one!
