Hi Crafty Meraki friends....it's Michelle back with you today sharing 2 cards using my absolute favourite technique using stencils! I decided to use the new and fabulous Lucky Lanterns Stencil for this. This is such an easy and really technique, that you really only need a stencil and pigment powders for. Let's get started, shall we!
Start by cutting a piece of watercolour paper to 6x6 or just slightly larger, you want it to at least be the size of the stencil. Spray the back of the stencil really well with temporary spray adhesize and adhere the stencil to the watercolour paper. Pick out a colour palette of pigment powders that go nicely together and won¨t turn muddy. I used Lindy's Gang Magicals, but can't remember what colours I used...I just picked a bunch that go well together. Sprinkle the powders evenly over the stencil, trying to get more over the design than on the negative space on it. Do not add too much, as they will spread.
Spray the stencil to activate the powderts, but do not drench the stencil, as you don't want water seeping under the stencil design. After about 5-10 secs, dab and wipe off the excess water with a paper towel. Remove the stencil and set the paper aside to dry. Be careful at first as the powders will still be wet.
I aczually didn't wipe off the excess water and powders from the stencil right away, as I didn't want to waste all of that colour. So without disturbing the stencil at all, I cut another piece of watercolour paper and placed the paper on top of the stencil. I pressed the paper into the water and pigment powders, being sure to get enough contact with it all, that they transfer well to the watercolour paper. I set that aside and allowed it to fully dry.
Once my 2 backgrounds were dry, I trimmed both to 4x5.25" and adhered to A2 cardbases. For the sentiments I diecut the Hi Stanalone Die from a dark cardstock and heat embossed it using Ebony Embossing Powder from WOW! Embossing. The shadow layer under the Hi was cut from vellum, as I didn't want too mich of these backgrounds to be covered. Add the diecut Hi's ot the backgrounds.
This is such a fun, easy and super cool technique to use with your stencils. I truly will never get tired of this, as the colour combinations are endless and it is so fun experimenting with all the different stenci designs. some are more successful than others....it's all trial and error. This technique is one that I rely on time and time again, when i want to showcase how gorgeous a stencil design is.
