New Life to Hot Foil Plates

New Life to Hot Foil Plates

Hey crafty friends....it's Michelle back today with a brand new and fun way to use your hot foil plates!  I was sitting there admiring my supplies (as we all do, right lol) and thought I would be adventurous and try to use a hot foil plate with wax.  Yup you read that right lol.  Essentially I wanted to try and make a big wax seal, using a hot foil plate as the wax seal stamp.  Mind you I was afraid at first as I wasn't sure if the wax would completely stick to the plate, but then I realized the hot foil plate is metal so once cooled the wax should just peel right off...and it did!  Let's get right to it, shall we and I'll show you how I made this!

First get out your wax seal supplies...wax beads, spoon and burner and light the candle so the spoon camn get nice and hot.  Next pick what colour(s) you want to use.  I picked a bluch pink, iridescent white, gold and a few black for contrast.  Normally for a wax seal you'd use 4.  Well because I was making something much bigger, I filled up the spoon and then some...lol.  You can see that it started to overflow a tiny bit.  All good though as I didn't have too mich of a mess.  Once you have all the wax melted, give it a slight swirl with the very tip of a toothpick to give the wax a slightly marbled look.

Pour the wax onto the silicone mat vertically in the direction of the design of the Diamond Dazzle Hot Foil Plate.  Place the plate on the wax and allow to sit to set and cool down before removing it.  Once cooled it peels away perfectly from the wax.

Don't throw out the remaining little bit of wax that is in the spoon.  Drop it onto your silicone mat to make coordinating embellishments. I did various sizes of drops, as I  like to use several different sizes.  I find it to be more appealing to the eye.

I added a little bit more gold to the cooled wax seal.  I used a very small amount of Ranger Distress Foundry Wax and rubbed it very lightly over the raised design on the wax.  To seal the Distress Wax you need to heat it slightly.  This will also give it a shiny finish.  I used my heat embossing tool, but made sure not to heat it too much as I didn't want to melt the wax seal.

Cut out the Canopy Leaf Die from black cardstock.  Brush some of the Foundry Wax on the leaves a bit randomly and heat to set it.  Also cut a piece of white cardstock to 4x5.25" and add some gold paint splatters to the right side of it.  This will sit under the wax seal we made.

Once the ink splatters are dry, add this to a white A2 cardbase.  Add the wax seal using a strong adhesive, as it is slick surface.  Over this add the canopy leaf diecut and then a few of the small wax dots.  Finally add the sentiment in black ink from the Thanks Bunches Stamp Set.  Mine is a bit blacker and bolder than normally would be, as I added a bit too much ink when I reinked my ink pad lol.

I absolutely love how this came out!  I will admit I was bit scaredf at first, but it turned out perfectly!  I did try a few other colour combinations of wax but the leaf diecut didn't stand out as much.  Knowing that you can use wax with hot foil plates opens up so many crafty possibilities!  I can't wait to play around some more and with all of the different plates as well.....eeek!!!  Thank you so much for joining me today at the blog,  I wish you all the most wonderful and crafty day!  Until next time, Michelle :)
