Mixed Media Card: Stencils from Dies

Mixed Media Card: Stencils from Dies

Hi there! It's Andrea here, and I'm sharing a mixed media card featuring products homemade stencilsi.

This week the design team is tasked with using stencils. Because I have only one stencil by Crafty Meraki (It's a layering one for the stamp set I used on this card), I decided to use dies to create my own stencils from vellum (It's more durable than cardstock and holds up to more ink, etc.). For this project I used the Laurel Leaf Para-Dies and the Marrakech Mosaic Background Die.

My card actually began with leftover ink from my last project. Rather than waste the inks (Something Borrowed and Drive-in from Catherine Pooler) on my craft mat, I misted them with water and dipped a panel of cardstock into the ink, repeating until I had covered the panel with ink. Using the Laurel Leaf stencil, I blended with the previous inks and also added some Serenade ink. Next, I stamped the large floral from You Inspire Me with Versafine Onyx Black ink and a few phrases from the set with Drive-In. To add a bit of texture, I applied silver glaze through the Marrakech stencil.

After the background had dried, I trimmed it slightly and matted it with black cardstock. I adhered the vellum leaf (the diecut left from creating my stencil) to the panel and wrapped black twine around it. I affixed the panel to a top-folding card with strips of thin foam tape to compensate for the thickness of the twine.

For my sentiment I used the Hugs Hot Foil Plate & Die Combo and Matte Silver Glimmer Foil. I affixed the diecut sentiment to my card with foam tape and finished with a few Prismatic Blue gems.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed my card because I certainly had fun dabbling with mixed media.
