It’s All About Love … Hot Foiling on Colour Blocked Backgrounds

Hello everyone! Bonnie here. I have a love-themed card and gift tag set featuring the hot foil plates, Eccentric Hearts and Affluent Heart. This is a fun, mixed media project that combines an inking technique, colour blocking, with hot foiling. Visit the Crafty Meraki YouTube Channel for more details.

I prefer to foil on top of an inked background. When foiling first, followed by inking, I have found removing the ink residue sitting on the foil can reduce its shine. The pink card stock panels for both the card and tag were inked with Pawsitively Saturated Inks Guava, Watermelon and Cherry. For the tag, sections were randomly masked with low tack tape and the various colours applied. To align the coloured stripes with the columns of hearts for the card front, pink card stock was cut the same size as the Eccentric Hearts foil plate. They were run through the die cutter creating impressions on the card stock.  Each column was masked off and inked.

The panels were hot foiled with gold glimmer foil. For the card, a hinge was created on one end attaching the panel to the foil plate. It was placed on the hot foil system, plate first, and the hot foil, shiny side down, was slipped between the card stock and plate. For the smaller panel, the hearts and sentiments from Affluent Heart were taped together to create two separate configurations. The foil was placed on the panel and the hearts positioned on top. More low tack tape was used to secure the plates to the panel before it was placed, plate side down, on the hot foil system. Both panels were spattered with Dr. P H Marten’s Bleedproof White that was slightly watered down using a small water colour brush.  The foiled sentiment on the panel for the tag was masked first.

The tag die from Love Slimline Tag was used to cut both the small foiled panel and pink card stock.  The tags were adhered back to back. The card front was adhered to an A2 sized card base. The LOVE sentiment from Love Slimline Tag was used to cut pink card stock and foam. They were stacked and adhered to the card front. The secondary sentiment was cut from gold foil card stock and adhered to the bottom of the main sentiment. Pink card stock and foam were cut with the Whole Heartedly cover die.  The hearts were stacked on the foam and used to embellish the card and tag. The hearts were finished off with a coating of Nuvo Glitter Drops White Blizzard. Gold metallic embroidery floss was used for the tie on the tag.Pink confetti (and a few gold on the card) topped up with Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew complete this duo!

This mixed media project was so much fun to create! The colour blocked backgrounds with the shiny foiling make a sweet addition to a Valentine’s gift.
