Hello crafty friends! Bonnie here from Bonniecarollee Makes Cards. I am a huge fan of cover dies. In my opinion, there is no easier way to make a quick card worthy of a special occasion … like a birthday! I have two cards featuring the newly released Speckled Canopy and Marrakech Mosaic. These dies produce beautifully detailed backdrops. Be sure to check out the VIDEO TUTORIAL for all the details.
Working on A2 sized panels of Bristol Smooth card stock, two panels were ink blended with Distress Oxide Inks. One is soft and pretty with a combination of Kitsch Flamingo, Ripe Persimmon and Dried Marigold. Rich brown tones were used for the other panel; Walnut Stain, Rusty Hinge and Frayed Burlap.
Speckled Canopy and Marrakech Mosaic were both cut from fine gold glitter card stock. These are intricate dies (especially Marrakech Mosaic) and some glitter card stock can be challenging to die cut (like the one I chose!). I find that placing the die on an angle on the die cutter’s platform and flipping it around half way through the process gives the best result. I roll it back forth a few times! I consider it part of my daily workout!
The Marrakech Mosaic panel was adhered to the backdrop with the brown tones and Speckled Canopy to the other one. The card front with Marrakech Mosaic was adhered to an A2 sized, black card base while Specked Canopy was mounted on white.
These cards have a simple finish with a bold sentiment from the Birthday Slimline Tag die set. The large ‘birthday’ was cut from Bristol Smooth card stock and ink blended with same tones used for each of their counterpart backgrounds. The secondary sentiment was cut from gold glitter card stock. All of the sentiments were stacked on foam die cuts. ‘Birthday’ was centred on the card fronts and ‘happy’ was positioned between the first and second letter groupings.
